It's easy to identify a puppy. A puppy is a tiny ball of fluff or a bigger, slightly awkward, not-quite-in-proportion dog.
Lucy will be two years old in a couple weeks. Even if she's a puppy for the two years of puppyhood my vet gives a Lab, she's at the end of it. She weighs 88 lb. so she doesn't look like a puppy.
But we always call her "the pup" in a rather generic sense. For example: "Have you fed the pup?" Or "I bought a new toy for the pup."
I am wondering because on Saturday my boyfriend's friend wanted to come pick up something at my house. My boyfriend said he'd be there at that time, but that "Kat usually takes the pup to the park then." Knowing the size of Lucy, the friend said, "That's no pup! That's a big dog." I disagreed. I think Lucy will always be "the pup" regardless of her age or size.

Thor is our puppy, too, even though he's quite elderly as mastiffs go. I believe it's a sign of affection!
My puppies from our litter will be three in October, but they'll always be the pups.
I agree, just like your children will always be your babies, your dog will always be your pup! She sure looks like she is enjoying herself and that is what life is all about!
I still call our dogs pup too...just like I tell my son he'll always be my baby! Love that picture of her! Reminds me of our lab we had to put down last year... Happy DoT!
A pup is a pup forever and ever. One of my nicknames for Ginger is pup-pup.
What a great "action" shot. It's priceless.
They'll always be our pup :-) Although I honestly think my dog still has yet to grow up despite the fact that she's turning 7 soon!
