DIC -- FO

Look, I finished my Dream in Color shrug!  It's a bit looser than I would have liked.  I got gauge on the stitches but not on the rows, so to compensate I knit 8 repeats instead of nine.  Then I blocked.  I didn't do it too severely, but the result is nice open lace but a slightly looser fit than I wanted.  Oh well.  I still plan to wear this with pride because I made it all by myself!
I should have smiled in this photo but I started to sweat as I posed at 7:30 a.m. on Friday.  It was already about 85 degrees.

Another Shrug

I haven't quite finished the other shrug, but I started a new one.  This one is made of Noro sock yarn.

This one should go down to my wrists when finished.
The yarn has great colors.
Here it is unpinned.  (I had to pin it to model it on my arm.)
Look at the little buttonholes.  Eventually it will close with buttons rather than pins.
This is the project I started last weekend at WWKIP.

DOT -- Not a Show Dog, Part II

I don't think show dogs sleep in such an undignified and unladylike manner.

For a friend

That's the usual ballband pattern, but this time in Lion Brand Nature's Choice Organic Cotton.  (How's that for a long name?)  It's intended to be a washcloth, but she can use it for whatever she wants.  I like this yarn.  It's very soft.  The colorway names make me hungry.  This is Strawberry and Pecan.  That would be a good ice cream flavor.

I knitted in public!

Saturday I got together with about 60 other knitters and knit in public!  I had a great time celebrating WWKIP, both at the pre-knit activities with the wonderful westside women and at the actual event.  I worked on some ribbing for a sleeve.

What is the proper past tense of knit?  Is it knitted or knit?

DOT -- Lucy's Beach Adventure

Last Saturday there was a sandcastle competition in Galveston.  We decided to go and check them out and thought Lucy might enjoy some time at the beach.  We weren't sure if dogs were allowed but decided to take our chances.  There weren't many dogs there, but they were not prohibited.

Lucy really liked playing in the water.

A ball and the beach.  What more could a girl ask for?

I love this photo of Lucy's release.  It's more of a "spit it out at Mom or Dad."  Her aim is really good!

Getting tired.  Time to take a break.

A very satisfied girl slept the whole way back to Houston.

Shrug in Progress

Here's my Dream in Color shrug being blocked.  I decided this will help the lace stitch really stand out.  Next I've got to sew the seams to create little sleeves.  Then I'll pick up stitches and do more ribbing.

See the little swatch at the far end of the ironing board?  I am thinking ahead to my next project.

DOT -- Lucy is 2!

Happy birthday to my baby!  Lucy was born June 3, 2007.

We began her birthday celebration the night before her birthday.  We gave her a new toy, a stuffed hedgehog with a "grunter" inside.  I know Lucy rips squeakers out immediately and I hoped a grunter would not be such a temptation.
I was wrong.  She removed it with surgical precision.
OK, now it's Wednesday, her actual birthday and we are about to go for a walk.  She celebrated by taking this tomato container out of the recycling bin and ripping it up.  Two years into her life and she still is a very chewy dog.
Lucy's grandma sent a few toys (and a lot of tennis balls) in a birthday package.  We took the orange squeaky Frisbee-like toy with us on the walk.  We reached the half-way point where Lucy insists on practicing her retrieval skills.  She liked the new toy!
Here's a photo showing all our walking supplies.  It's just a walk with the dog so it should be simple, right?  No.  What you can't see is me wearing my cargo-pocket hiking shorts, or my dog-walking pants as I call them.  In the pockets there are poop bags, the phone, camera, and house key.  In the backpack I carry a bottle of water for Lucy and her travel bowl because it's definitely summer here, and the retrieving toy.  Sometimes it's a ball and this time it was the new Frisbee.
Two years ago when she was born I had no idea I was getting a puppy.  Life was much simpler then, but not nearly as fun as it is now.  Happy birthday to my baby!
