Yellow Pages

Last night I saw a TV commercial for the yellow pages. You know how nowadays there are several versions of the yellow pages. This commercial was for one particular version which is better than the others because it has more complete listings (they say). Two older ladies looked up a place called Needleworks. They packed up their knitting bags with yarn (all kinds) and needles (many sizes) and went to the address shown in the ad. It wasn't a yarn shop. It was a tattoo parlor. If they'd used the correct yellow pages, they wouldn't have made that mistake.

I don't think this commercial consulted any knitters. I was trying to figure out why the ladies took all their supplies to the store. It didn't seem like the stuff was related to one project since it was such a mishmash. Did they plan to sit on the shop's couch and knit? Did they need some help figuring something out? And to look up stuff in the yellow pages, you look up a category, not a business name. So how did they confuse a tattoo parlor with a yarn shop?

Another Washcloth

This is another washcloth for the Defeat the Winter Doldrums Dishcloth swap. Thanks to Ariel for suggesting this yarn. It's a cotton from Knit Picks called Crayon. It is so squishy soft. I hope the recipient enjoys it.

Now that this is done, I'll mail the package at the end of the week. Three simultaneous swaps, three swaps completed!

Heart at Dinner

Friday nights we make pasta. This is carbs for Saturday's long run! This past Friday we had penne with sausage and tomato sauce from the October 2006 issue of Gourmet. Here the heart checks out the ingredients.

Dinner is ready!
I'd gladly share my wine with the heart, but it doesn't have a mouth.
The heart has no hands so it did not have to help clean up or wear the rubber gloves.

Note -- The dishcloth was made by Marsha for the summer dishcloth swap.

Heart at Work

The heart went to work with me on Friday. Here it checks out my keyboard.

Here it helps me interpret my seismic data.

Cocoa Buddy Part 2

My cocoa swap package from Tara arrived on Valentine's Day! I didn't notice it until the next morning though. Here's what I got. (Note--flowers are gift from boyfriend but they made a nice backdrop.)
The buddy is a blue heart--very appropriate for this time of year. Tara sent Ghirardelli hot chocolate, chocolates, a lemon cheesecake cheeseball mix, some Bath & Body Works shower gel (love that stuff), toys for the kitty, spiraly things to hold my needles together, a really nice bookmarker (silver thing sticking up from the yarn), and some itty-bitty pony tail holders. The pony tail elastics can be used as stitch markers. That is such a great idea!

The beautiful green yarn is called Terra. Tara says it's one of her favorites. Kind of cool to have an almost namesake yarn!

Above is a zoomed in view of the goodies on the left.

That's a zoomed in view of the goodies on the right.

Tara also sent a copy of the Foliage hat from Knitty. It would look great in the Terra yarn. I forgot to include it in the picture. Sorry.

Thanks for the great cocoa package, Tara!

Cocoa Buddy Part 1

Postal service tracking tells me my pal's package has made it to her city so I feel safe in posting this picture. It's the kitty I made for her. I don't know its sex--it's so hard for me to tell on a kitten--and it doesn't have a name yet. All that is for her to determine.

for Dogyarnfun

Look at the lower left. This reminded me of your ID photo. Hmm, what is the proper term for the little picture that shows up in your profile? That's what I am talking about.

Dishcloth Discussion

This week's assignment is to post a picture of our dishcloth yarn stash. Here's mine. It's all Peaches & Cream or Sugar & Cream.

I thought the yarn was too pretty to be in a bin in the closet so I put it in this basket in my bedroom. Now that I look at this picture, there seems to be a dearth of blues, greens, purples. There might be some on the bottom layer, though I did not look. I know that until recently there was a half-used ball of lime green near the top. Lucy snorfled it away when I wasn't looking. I had no idea until I walked into the living room to find lime green yarn strewn about and Lucy using some as dental floss. I pried open her jaws and dug it out. Needless to say, that lime green ended up in the trash can.

I also have a couple cones of cotton, but they are not in the basket.

I decided to try something new (for me) for this swap and made a washcloth in chenille. It's very soft and squishy. It will go very well with the soap I am picking out for my partner.

This brings me to another thought. Why do we send soap with our dishcloths? Don't get me wrong, I've loved the soaps I've received (especially the giant bar Holly sent me last time). But I used the soap in the shower and the dishcloth in the kitchen with plain old Dawn dishwashing liquid. Why don't we match our soap to the intended use of the cloth? There are some very nice dishwashing soaps available at kitchen specialty shops. Don't take this as a complaint. I am just pondering.

Happy knitting!
